4-ish mile dash starting and finishing on the sea front at Dawlish Warren. Run along the beach, over the groins along the sea wall and back via Lady's Mile footpath. All off road - may be sandy!

Eight Dawlish Coasters took part in the Ivybridge 10k on Saturday evening. About 700 runners took part in this popular race on this out and back course on a warm sunny evening. Eric Foster led the Coasters home in a fine time of 45:27 with Simon Bunday next in 47:13, Jan Foster had another fine race with a time of 50:13 and Gill Hardy in 52:19. Next was Les elms in 53:13 and Carly Greene 1:00:09, Sue Brown 106:55 and David Moreland 1:06:56. All runners received a tech t/shirt.

Simon Bunday traveled to Bere Alston near Tavistock to take part in the Bere Pen 10k. Around 100 runners took part in this 3 down and 3 up race around the country lanes and along the banks of the river Tamar. In near perfect conditions Simon finished 28th overall in a time of 51:16. All runners received a medal and watercolour print by a local artist.

4 Coasters made the trip up to Haldon Forest for the Haldon Heartbeat off road 8.5 mile race around the dirt tracks of Haldon Forest. Around 220 runners took part in this tough run, Tony Squires recorded a fine time of 1:01 with Eric Foster getting in next in a time of 1:07, then Simon Bunday in 1:12 and Jan Foster taking 3rd vet in her class with a time of 1:21.
All runners received a t/shirt for their efforts.

4 Coasters traveled to Tavistock to take part in the half marathon. Around 300 runners took part in this scenic run around the lanes of Tavistock. Sean Mcdonald lead the coasters home in a time of 1:43:02 with Simon Bunday coming home in 1:48, Kevin Thompson in 1:57 and Maria Trylska in 2:28. All runners received a quality more mile tech t/shirt and medal.

Simon Bunday traveled to the lake district to take part in the Coniston water 14 road race, around 1600 runners took part in this very scenic run around the lake, on a perfect day for running simon finished the tough course in 1hr;57mins, all runners received a slate medal for there efforts.

2 coasters ventured up to Hanham nr Bristol for the Hanham Horror 10k expecting lots of cold mud! No mud(and warm)!! Had a rather hasty dash to get to the start(arrived 2 mins before the race start!). Very scenic course, undulating(with steps thrown in) and with some interesting rope climbs towards the finish! Well marshaled and friendly atmosphere.

Simon Bunday and Les Elms travelled to Weston-Super-Mare to take part in the Multi Terrain Tough Ten. This is a 10 mile run starting and finishing on the beach and taking in two tough climbs through woodlands. Over one thousand runners took part with Simon finishing in 1:23:37 and Les in 1:31:00. All runners received a slate coaster.

Two Dawlish coasters braved the icy conditions to take part in the Exeter Half Marathon a new event run along side the Exeter canal. Around 268 runners completed the course which was organised by ironbridge runner. Simon Bunday completed the course in 1:46 and new club member Maria Trylska finished in 2:27. All runners received a goody bag with not much in it.

Two Dawlish coasters took part in the Fulfords Five Road Race at Exmouth at the weekend. About 200 runners took part in this 2 lap course along the seafront and around the town centre. Simon Bunday completed the run in 36:41 and Sarah Watson finished in 49:26.

Simon Bunday was a lone Coaster traveling to Plymouth for the Plympton 10k a scenic run along the banks of the Plym and through the grounds of Saltram House. Around 200 runners took part with Simon completing the run in 48:27. All runners received a medal.

Simon Bunday and Les Elms travelled to Somerset for the Wellington Monument 10k road race. Just over 100 runners took part in this event which has a lung bursting hill at mile 1 and goes up to the monument and back to the village of Hemyock. Simon finished in 50:48 with Les finishing in 55:14. All runners received a 25th anniversary glass and hat.

Simon Bunday travelled to Weston-Super-Mare for the Wyvern Christmas Cracker 10k. Around 1600 runners finished this mainly flat race along the beach and town. Simon completed the run in 48:15. All runners received a long sleeved t-shirt.

Pat Clatworthy the only Dawlish Coaster taking part in the annual Santa's Xmas Pud Run, approximately 5k in and around Plymouth's Central Park. All runners must wear the Santa suit provided, with quite a few runners wearing 'green' suits this year. A brilliant race, very friendly, and the rain actually kept off for the race, the downside was a long dragging hill to the finish.

Four Coasters turned up at Otterton on Saturday to take part in the Reindeer Run 10k off road event along the banks of the lovely river Otter. 177 runners took part in the event, Simon Bunday finished in 55:00 with Les Elms next in 54:31 and then Jan and Eric Foster finishing together in 56:05. Everyone enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine in the village hall at the end of the race.

Simon B, Barry, Eric and Jan all travelled to Bicton to take part in the Blister and the Lite. Simon and Barry ran the 10 mile Blister in 1:32 and 1:33 respectively and Eric and Jan ran the 4.5 Lite. All runners received a tech t-shirt. There were around 500 runners taking part on a lovely sunny day.

Pat Clatworthy on the Ridgeway, along with 200 other runners, took part in the Druid Challenge. A tough 84 mile 3 day event off-road ultra challenge. The going was tough, misty, very hilly and thick sticky mud mainly through fields and woods. Early mornings and sleeping on leisure centre floors created a great camaraderie with the other runners. One of the highlights of the weekend was a talk on Saturday by Rory Coleman who had completed his 700th marathon that day!.

Simon B travelled to Chipping Sodbury to take part in the Sodbury Slog a 9 mile off road event which is run through farmland with a sheep dip. Drainage ditch and ploughed field amongst the obstacles, around 1300 runners take part in this very muddy event with Simon finishing in 310th place in a time of 1:22. Everyone received a lovely embroidered towel.

Les Elms and Simon Bunday travelled to Yarcombe near Honiton on Saturday to take part in the Yarcombe Yomp 5 mile off road event. A tough event through fields, farm yards and woods with a big hill thrown in for good measure. Simon completed the run in 46mins with Les next in 52 mins. On Sunday Simon was at it again taking part in the Templer 10 mile event at Kingsteington along with fellow coasters Barry Buckland and David Moreland. This event runs along the river Teign around Stover lake at back to the Passage House Inn. Simon came home in 1:15, with Barry hot on his heels in 1:16 and then David in 1:41.

Simon Bunday was among 80 other hardy soles who braved the windy showery elements of Dartmoor when he took part in the 6.8 mile Sourton Scramble. In wintry conditions the runners struggled to get any rhythm going in this multi terrain event. Simon still managed to get a time of 57:32 and finished 40th overall. All runners received a medal.

Simon Bunday ventured up to Dartmoor and took part in the newly revamped Tavy 7 with a new start and finish at Plasterdown with most of the old course thrown in around. 450 runners took part in very windy conditions which made for tough going. Simon completed the race in 56:05 and all runners received a brooks tech. t/shirt

Pat Clatworthy was the only Dawlish Coaster crossing over the Scottish border for this popular marathon. A total of 3,800 runners in the full marathon and 5,000 runners in the 10k and 5k. Double decker buses took the marathon runners to the very bleak start closely resembling Dartmoor, complete with mist and drizzle, with some hail thrown in, before running to finish in Inverness. A seriously hilly event, but very friendly and well organised. Pat completed the marathon in 5:53

Six coasters travelled to Berlin for a long weekend to soak up the atmosphere and take in the sights. Barry Buckland, Ducan Crake and Simon Bunday took park in the 38th BMW Berlin marathon which also saw GB star Paula Radcliffe take part and finish in 3rd place in the womans race. On a hot and balmy day Barry had a superb run finishing in 4: 7, with Simon next in 4:20 and then Duncan in 4:49. They were cheered on by Pat, Shelagh and Steve as they crossed the line. They all received a superb medal and t/shirt.
After this the coasters celebrated Shelaghs birthday with a few well earned german beers.

A total of 79 runners took part in this first Saltram 10k race. The course was basically 2 laps of the 5k route in reverse, including a section running up some forest steps(leg sapping!). Weather held out till the last people finished. A medal to all finishers.

Simon Bunday travelled to Princetown to take part in the Dartmoor dash 5 miler. This is a true off road event across a boggy section of the open moor with one beast of a hill. Around 60 runners took part with Simon completing the course in 45:03.

Four coaster travelled to totnes for the totnes 10k a scenic 6.5 mile race along the banks of the river dart and around dartington estate, eric foster was first coaster home in 51;43, with simon Bunday close behind in 52;45, les elms was next in 56;56 and the only lady coaster to run jan foster in 57;41, all runners received a lovely medal for there efforts.

Simon Bunday was the only Dawlish coaster to venture up to Dartmoor to take part in the Haytor Heller; 250 runners took part in what is billed as the toughest 10k run in the south west. Starting at Haytor Rock and running across the open moor to Hound Tor and back where runners take on some of the most challenging hills on the moor, in blustery conditions Simon completd the course in 1:01

2 coasters plus Jan’s daughter took part in the Duckponds 7k run at Plymstock. Results; Eric 31:45, Jan 35:06 (2nd FV55) Michelle(Jan’s daughter) 38:44, her first run over 5k. Well done! Course was undulating but nice, all off-road.

Sarah Watson and Simon B took part in the Otter Valley Rail Run 10k at Tipton St John on a lovely sunny summers day. This is a lovely scenic run along the banks of the river Otter with a couple of gentle hills thrown in. Around 150 runners took part in this off round event with Simon completing the course in 49:52. All runners received a drinks bottle.

Pat in Woolacombe for the half marathon. The heat and burning sun was unbearable, together with the steps and steep climbs made this a very tough half marathon. Took just under 3 hours, my worst time for the half marathon. Nice medal and the cream tea at the end sort of made up for the conditions. Very friendly race lots of atmosphere but oh so hot.

Kevin Thompson and Simon Bunday travelled to Killerton Gardens for the Killerton Kanter 10k off road event. In extremely hot conditions, plenty of hill runners struggled with the sultry conditions. Simon finished in 52:39 and Kevin in 58:06. 130 runners took part in the event and received a t-shirt for their efforts.

Simon B and David Moreland took part in the Torbay half marathon on Sunday. Around 2000 runners took part in near perfect running conditions. Simon completed the run in 1:45 and David finished in 2:18. All runners received a medal, t-shirt and goody bag.

Simon completed the the Dartmor Ultra on Saturday in blistering hot conditions, with lung bursting hills thrown in, 146 runners completed the tough course. Simon completed the run in 5:58, all runners received a technical t-shirt and medal.

Simon and Pat travelled up to the Lake District to take part in the Brathay Windemere Marathon. This was the 2nd time that they both took part in this race. This is a tough and hilly course but very scenic. On the day after heavy rain and strong winds the weather relented in time for the start to give a mainly dry day for runners to enjoy the run. Around 700 runners finished the race with Simon completing the course in 4:1 a pb and Pat on her way back from injury in 6:3. Everyone received a slate medal.

A beautiful evening for this well established, well organised and well supported (600 plus runners ) race. The crux of the race is the lung-busting hill at around 2k; get this wrong and it's just the beginning of the suffering! Star Coaster was Jan (50.02), with a good run from Eric (47.49) and honourable efforts from David (61.54), Sarah (62.15) and Dave (64.21). Pat was there supporting us, distributing race information - first 2 Flyer entries duly followed - and planning retribution for Dave who wore his club vest back to front. One can only imagine!

Simon Bunday travelled Tavistock to take part in the half marathon. Over 400 runners took on the lovely scenic but tough course on the edge of Dartmoor on a blistering hot day. Simon managed a time of 1:49:50 and and finished 121st overall. Everyone received a technical t-shirt and medal for there hard earned efforts.

Two Dawlish coasters entered the Taunton Half Marathon on a perfect day for running with the sun shining and just a slight breeze. 1200 runners took part in this run around the country lanes of Somerset. Simon Bunday completed the course in 1:43:28 and Duncan Crake in 1:54:54. All runners received a nice medal and t/shirt.

Simon Bunday travelled to Plymouth to take part in the Plympton 10k. A record field of over 300 runners took part in the scenic race along the river Plym and up to Saltram house and back. Simon completed the run in 46:36, everyone received a medal for there efforts.

Myself and Jan took up this challenge(why?) to provide some sport for the HOWMET BG&E cycle club. The ‘race’ started near the Black Forest lodge and finished 1.4miles up the hill! We actually managed to beat 1 cyclist! Our times were, Jan just over 15mins and myself, approx 12min 30s. The cyclists welcomed the challenge and said they look forward to seeing more Dawlish Coasters next year.
Well worth doing once!
P.S. A hot glass of punch and a cream egg greeted us at the finish.

Three coasters travelled down to Redruth in Cornwall for the Duchy 20 mile road race. On a lovely sunny day 226 runners took part in this scenic race around the countryside and coastline. Simon Bunday was first coaster home in 2:51, with Kevin Thompson hot on his heels coming home in 2:55. Gill Hardy finished in a fine time of 3:09 all runners received a medal and a pasty.

Stella Imong and Kevin Thompson turned out on Sunday along with 138 other finishers to take part in the Dalwood Three Hills Challenge. A race should be 'what it says on the packet'! This did take place at Dalwood, it definitely was a challenge but I am sure there were four hills! This is a hilly, muddy, scenic, fun ten miler that can definitely be recommended. Stella finished in a time of 2:05:29 and Kevin in 1:49:25.

The Better Half - half marathon relay
A total of 400 ladies gathered at the Exeter Quay in very wet, cold and windy conditions for the half marathon and relay. Dawlish Coasters had two teams of three for the relay. Pat Clatworthy, Lorna Richards, Jan Foster, Michelle Mitchel, Gail Crocker and Sally Stratford. Team one finished in a total time of 2:04:15, Team two finished in 2:14:53. This was a real race for the ladies, every runner received a medal, bunch of flowers, chocolates and a kiss from a fireman, what more can a girl want!

Simon bunday travelled to Weston-super-mare to run in the Easy Runner Tough Ten Challenge. Over a thousand runners took part in awful conditions. It rained throughout the race and conditions weren’t helped by strong winds. Simon completed the run in 1:26. Everybody received a slate coaster.

Two coasters travelled to Exmouth for the Fulfords 5. 200 runners took part in this two lap course around a cold and windy Exmouth sea front. Simon Bunday completed the course in 37:11 with David Moreland finishing in 49:30.

Four Dawlish coasters ventured to North Devon for the Braunton 10 miler. On a cold and icy course 232 hardy souls braved the elements. Pete Rigler ran a superb race coming in 10th overall in a time of 1:02. This was Petes first race in Coaster colours. Simon Bunday was next in 1:19, with Kevin Thompson not far behind at 1:27. Stella Imong finished in 1:40.

Simon Bunday travelled to Thornbury near Bristol to take part in the 9.5 mile Riverbank Rollick. 248 runners took part in this tough off road event, with strong winds tough hills and plenty of mud this made for slow going. Just to finish off runners finished the race running through a 100 yard stretch of river. Simon completed the run in 1:26:46.
