September 23rd/24th 2017

‘Oops! Tryl clearly working on British Summer Time, forgot to mention her Windsor Weekend of running: Ladies 10k on the Saturday (upgraded from the 8k event she had run in the past), and then the Half-Marathon on the Sunday in 2:32:45. Weirdly, always Indian Summer weather for this weekend and well organised and great atmosphere at the event. Highly recommended.

Plymouth 10k – Sunday 8 October
Mel and Laraine took on the Plymouth 10k on Sunday; this race attracts a large field of 2,000 runners and starts in the city centre running out and back along the embankment on a mainly flat fast course. Mel ran a superb time of 40:17 and was 4th lady overall and 2nd vet 40, Laraine finished in a time of 53:05.

Bournemouth Running Festival – 7/8 October
Also at the weekend 5 Coasters travelled to Dorset for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, Eric and Jan took on the half marathon on an undulating course with nearly 4000 runners, Jan finishing in 1:50:01 getting 2nd in her age group, only missing a first by 4 seconds, Eric finishing in 1:50:18.  Robin took on the 10k finishing in 1:09:30, this on a flat course along Bournemouth seafront to Boscombe Pier and back.  In the evening Pat, Tryl and Danny took part in the 5k race which is run in the dark with head torches.  Tryl and Danny finished together  47:10 and Pat in 51:20.  All runners received a medal and T-shirt in all the events. And a head torch for the 5k race.  A great running weekend, with a distance for everyone

Great West Run – Sunday 15 October
3 Coasters taking part in this popular half marathon, starting and finishing at the Exeter Arena with a stadium finish.  The route takes in Exeter City Centre and the university, as well as the beautiful country lanes through Stoke Woods.  Ross first Coaster to finish in 1:32:52, John Adey 1:43:03 and Laraine 1:59:00.  All runners received a medal and T-shirt

Eden Project – Sunday 15 October
Coasters Simon and Tryl took part in the Eden Project half marathon; around 1,000 runners took part in this tough multi terrain event with over a thousand feet of climbs. The race starts and finishes at Eden with the run passing through several Cornish villages with some 40% of the race off road. Simon finished in 2:02 and Tryl in 2:43. All runners received a medal, tech T-shirt, a pasty and a pint and free entry into the Eden project, a really good race to enter.

Dart Vale 10k – Sunday 29 October
Robin was the only Coaster to take part in this year’s Dartmoor Vale races starting and finishing at the East Gold Works, Newton Road, opposite the Newton Abbot Racecourse Robin took on the 10k and finished in a time of 1:12:04

Dublin Marathon – Sunday 29 October

Coasters on tour this time in the Republic of Ireland to take on the Dublin marathon, Pat, Corrie, Duncan, Freddie, Pam and Simon and lots of other friends to celebrate Pat’s big birthday, made the trip across the water for a superb weekend of sightseeing, running and of course a few pints of the black stuff.  This race, which is an undulating course around the city and outskirts of Dublin taking in such famous places as the River Liffey, Guinness factory and Phoenix Park.  With a record entry of 22,000 made a great atmosphere with thousands of people lining the streets.  All runners received a lovely medal, T-shirt and goody bag.  Duncan, Freddie and Pam were there on hand to support the Coasters who ran.  Simon finished in 4:22:10 with Pat and Corrie finishing together in just over 7 hours
