City to Sea – Sunday 3 September

Simon, Duncan and Dennis made the short trip to Exeter to take part in the City to Sea marathon, around 300 runners took part in this superb event, the course took runners From Exwick Sports Hub down the banks of Exeter canal and onto Starcross, Dawlish, Teignmouth and then to the finish on Babbacombe Downs in Torquay. The last six miles were brutal with many stiff climbs along the coast and to make the going even tougher heavy rain and strong winds stayed with the runners all day. Simon completed the course in 5:46:34 with Duncan and Dennis in 7:12:14, all runners received an amazing medal, T-shirt and fish and chips for their efforts. Pat, Corrie, Freddie and Pam went along to support in awful conditions.

Run Exe 5k Series – Tuesday 5 September
Mel took part in the last in the series and was pleased to go sub 20 mins and just a couple of seconds outside of her PB of 19:50

Michelmores 5k – Thursday 7 September
Chris running around the streets of Exeter City along with over 1,100 other runners.   This year, the Run was in aid of Balloons – a local charity that supports bereaved children and their families in Exeter and the surrounding area. Chris finished in 31:04

Bad Cow Frolic – Saturday 9 September
Pat in Dorset for this White Star Running Event, a 12 hour challenge comprising of 4.5 mile laps, the runners can choose to do as little or many laps as they want.  All off-road, with a mixture of surfaces, gravel tracks lot of sand, mud and woods and of course cows. This event is measured by the number of laps achieved rather than a time, with runners stopping for tea between laps; Pat completed 3 laps before the torrential rain came in.  Brilliant well organised event, as always superb medal, goody bag and the usual squeaky toy (a rather cute white cow)

Bubble Rush – Saturday 9 September
Michelle, grandson Ollie and his mum Kim took part in the first ‘Bubblerush’ at the Torbay Velopark, in aid of Rowcroft, a 5k event which replaces the usual paint with loads and loads of bubbles. Over 900 runners took part and help to raise £35,000.00.  Sounds fun

Woodbury 10k Fun Run – Sunday 17 September
Eric and Jan did the Woodbury 10k ‘fun run’.  Eric said it was a little bit ‘hilly’ but a nice scenic route.  Weather was good, nice atmosphere with a bacon bap at the finish! But not what he would call a ‘fun run’ Eric 48:06, Jan 51:13

Dartmoor Volcano – Sunday 17 September
Simon took part in the Dartmoor Volcano 10.5 mile race starting and finishing in Scorriton on the edge of the moor, the first 2 miles are all up hill on to the moor and then runners run a very boggy wet route firstly to Pupers Hill and then Ryders Hill before running over the top of Redlake Tip.  There are 5 river crossings on route with over 1600 feet of climbs. Around 150 runners took part with Simon finishing in 2:01 and described the race as the toughest 10 miles he had ever run. All runners received a lovely medal

Dalehead Fell race – Sunday 17 September
Tom in the Lake District for the Dalehead fell race as part of the local sheep show.  Tom did well coming 43rd out of 61 runners, in a time 1:15. The race has just the one hill (Dalehead), but it's a big one! The race has twice the climb of our Obelisk race, but in less than half the total race distance (4.8 miles). Tom said the worst bit is the going down though and nearly a week later still couldn’t walk downstairs properly

Camelot Challenge – Saturday 23 September
Lots of Coasters!!! eight in all, Simon, Pam, Duncan, Corrie, Dennis, Freddie (doing his first half marathon), John and Pat in Sherborne for the Camelot Challenge half marathon, a very tough and some very big climbs on this off-road course, but all were rewarded half way round at the Camelot Arms with lots of cake, sandwiches, tea and coffee.  What a great day it was and we all received a superb medal and more cake at the finish line

Dornafield 10k – Sunday 24 September
3 Coasters took part in the ladies only 10k at Dornafield near Denbury. This race is organised by Teignbridge Trotters and attracted a field of 163 finishers.  It’s run on an undulating course around the country lanes. First Coaster home was Mel in 42:44 and was 3rd overall and 1st vet 40. Next was Jan in a time of 51:40 and she was also 2nd vet 60, and Larraine in 56:22.  Well done ladies
